As I have studied the Chinese version of Butcher Ding story (in Hong Kong education syllabus in the old days). It’s pretty interesting to see an English version of presentation and interpretation of it.

Back then when we learned about it, the teacher gave us the interpretation of the philosophy (Dao) about persuading the emperor to take a path the letting citizen rest (as it’s War time story) instead of doing ambitious task (eg development and war).

Taking this to a personal living style have never came into my mind.
